Double Overhand or Blood Knot
This is a simple variation on the previous knot. If the working end is taken a second time around the standing part before the loop is pulled closed, we get a double overhand knot, often known as a blood knot. It is said that this knot was tied in the strands of a cat-o'-nine-tails to cut into the flesh during punishment, and this gave it its name.
1 Again, take the rope and make a loop near the working end. Pass the end of the rope across the standing part and then through the loop as with the previous knot, but this time repeat.
