Overhand Knot with Draw Loop
|
Because the overhand knot can be hard to untie, this variation produces a stopper knot that can be easily be removed from the line.
1. Form a thumb knot in the normal manner but before you pull it tight, bring the working end back through the loop.
2. Work the loop closed, trapping the working end. Pulling on the end will draw the loop through the thumb knot and untie it.
You must make sure that the working end comes back into the loop alongside itself to form the draw loop and does not come up from the wrong side, which would create a blood knot. |
3. If you form the loop around the standing part of the cord, when pulled taut the loop will slide along the standing part to make a simple slip knot or noose. In this form the knot has been used in primitive snares, but there are better knots to use for this. |
